This Winter, we are piloting a program we invented called GradToMentor, where we pair graduate and undergraduate students with deserving and underserved high schoolers. The main idea is that students are best understood by other students through peer mentoring, and also that a small commitment of 1 hour per month can greatly enrich the lives of both the college students and the high school students they mentor. This is especially true in computer science, where women and minorities have been traditionally underrepresented.
